Prompt: After reading Chapter 1 of Into the Wild, consider your first impression of Christopher McCandless. Based solely on the events and details presented in this opening chapter, do you believe McCandless truly understood the risks he was taking when he entered the Alaskan wilderness? Why or why not?

Prompt Response: My first impression of Christopher McCandless is that independent but I also think he is clueless. I think this because he only brought a small gun and 10 pound bag of rice, which isn't enough to protect you or keep you fed for a long time. He is independent because cut off communication with all of his family and started traveling alone. I don't think he understood the risks he was taking when he entered the Alaskan wilderness because he didn't have enough supplies which showed he didn't know about the dangers, and he refused help from people who picked him up.

Summary: We read the first chapter of Into the Wild

Reflection: I learned about who Christopher McCandless was.
