Today I recited the poem Dust of snow by Robert Frost

Prompt: As the first semester comes to an end, take time to reflect on your learning and growth in this course. In a well-developed response, explain what you enjoyed most about the class, identify the project or assignment you found most engaging, and discuss which aspect of the course you connected with the most (such as poetry, fiction, writing, or discussion). Finally, reflect on one area where you feel you need additional support or improvement as we move into the spring semester.

Prompt Response: Over the semester I think this class has helped me with many things like teaching me how to write better. One part of the class I enjoy are the vocab assignments, because I can learn new words. The aspect of the course that I liked the most was poetry, because it is easy to read and you can figure out the deeper meanings behind the poem. One area of class I need to improve are my writing skills for long passages, I think this because I've never been the best at writing. Summary: Absent Reflection: Absent

Prompt: Many holidays center around traditions. Describe one tradition that is important to you or your family and explain why it still matters (or why it no longer does).

Prompt Repsonse: One holiday tradition that is important to me is decorating the tree every year. My mom, sister, and I hang lights, ornaments, and put an angel on top of the tree together to make it look nice. This tradition matters to me because even thought my sister is in college and we are busy  a lot, wee still have time to spend time together for the holidays. This helps make the holidays seem more special: Summary: Absent Reflection: Absent

Prompt: Write about something you’ve outgrown but still miss.

Prompt Response: I've outgrown playing with toys as I've gotten older, but sometimes I still think about them. I remember when I was little and could play with toys for hours, while still being entertained, this reminds me of when times were simpler and more carefree. Now I don't have time for that because of things like homework, jobs, and new hobbies. So even thought I've grown up I still think about playing with toys because the feeling of innocence it gave me.

Prompt: Write about something that you can't stop thinking about.

Prompt Response: Recently I can't stop thinking about my future and what I will do after school. I've been wondering about what kind of job I will have after college, and who I will meet in the process. Thinking about this makes me happy sometimes because I can think about things that I would want to do, but sometimes it stresses me out to think of all the responsibilities I will have.

Prompt: Write about the best gift you have received.

Prompt response: The best gift I've ever received was my car. I think this is the best gift I've ever received because for one, it is a very big gift to receive. I think this shows how much my grandparents love me, because they gave me a car for free, and I think that is an important part of recieving a gift. This gift also means a lot to me because it is very practical, and I use it pretty much to get wherever I go.

Prompt: After watching the short film Identity, write a blog post reflecting on how the masks in the film represent the pressure to fit in and the struggle to discover who you really are. Choose one moment from the film that stood out to you and explain why. Then, connect the film’s message to Langston Hughes’ poem “I, Too” and to the mask you are creating in class. What part of your identity do you want your mask to reveal?

Prompt Respsonse: One part of the short film "Identity" that stood out to me was the scene in the lunch room, where the girl is sitting all alone at the lunch table because here mask is different than everybody elses. It showed the reality about how hard it can be to express yourself, and try to make friends. This connects to the message of "I Too" because both of the stories are about someone being left out because there are different from the majority of people in some way. I want my mask to show where I come from, and my faith.

Prompt: In “I, Too,” the speaker expresses pride in his identity and his rightful place in America. Reflect on your own life: What aspect of your cultural identity are you most proud of, and why?

Prompt Response: One part of my cultural identify that I am proud of is my Christain, and American traditions. Celebrating holidays like Christmas and Easter with my family, going to church, and giving back to the community. These traditions teach me to be thankful, and embrace my faith. I feel like these parts of me help to show who I am.

Prompt: In “We Real Cool,” the speakers make choices that seem exciting, bold, and rebellious, even though those choices lead to consequences. Write about a moment in your own life when you followed what looked cool or fun, only to realize afterwards that it wasn’t the smart or responsible path. What influenced your decision, and how did your perspective change later?

Prompt Response: One time in middle school I did something I new wasn't a good idea, which was staying up all night before school to play video games with my friends, instead of doing my homework. At the time It felt like I was being cool, but I realized the next morning that it was a dumb decisions becuase then I wasn't;t prepared for school.  This showed me I need to take care of my responsibiliies before doing whatever I want.

Prompt: Discuss something meaningful or memorable you experienced over the break, or reflect on what you felt most thankful for during that time.

Prompt Responsee: Over Thanksgiving break, the most meaningful moment for me was spending time with family, and talking around the table. We all shared stories, and helped each other out in the kitchen. I made me realize that I'm lucky for having a lot of people to support me, because some people are less fortunate then me. I

Prompt: Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks and spending time with family over a nice dinner. Write about your most unforgettable meal.

Prompt Response: One of the most unforgettable meals I had for thanksgiving was when I was a kid and went to me grandmother to celebrate it for the first time. The table had lots of good food like the turkey and mashed potatoes. But the part that really made It unforgettable were the memories I made with my family, and It being my first time spending the holiday there. That meal made me feel greatful for my family.

Prompt: Write about a time when you realized you needed to look out for yourself in a silly or harmless situation—maybe dodging a pop quiz, escaping a group chat argument, or remembering at the last second to submit an assignment. How did choosing wisely make your life easier?

Prompt Response: One time I realized I needed to look out for myself was when I forgot to turn in a homework assignment until the very last minute. Everyone else in my class also forgot, so I had to act fast and turn it in before it was to late. My choice to handle the problem right away turned out to help me in the future by starting to teach me about how solving small situation can help you to stay on top of things.

Prompt: Write about what you are thankful for.

Prompt Response: I am thankful forr my family because they make me feel loved and have always cared for me. My family also raised me to be who I am today, which is another reason I;m thankful for them. I am also greatful for my friends, they help me have fun when I could be going through a hard time. Lastly I am grateful for my health, which allows me recover from when I'm injured or sick, and lets me enjoy each day. Summary: In class we read the new vocabulary word, wrote a sentence using them, and 6 multiple choice questions Reflection: I learned the meaning of some of the vocabulary words

Prompt: The last scene forces readers to reinterpret Emily’s entire life. Write about a moment when new information changed your perception of a person or situation. How did that “plot twist” reshape your understanding, the same way Faulkner’s ending reshapes the story?

Prompt Response: A moments that changed how I saw someone was a long time ago were I thought one of my classmates was just sitting around and not doing any work. I learned he was caring for a sick family member at home, and was just tired, but before I new this I was judging him for being lazy. This made me change how I think about people, because you will never really understand what is going on in someone else's life.

Prompt: In “A Rose for Emily,” Miss Emily’s actions shock the reader—she kills her fiancé and keeps his body in her home for years. People often react with disbelief when they hear about real-life stories that seem just as unbelievable. Write about the most shocking or “craziest” news story you have ever heard. What happened, and why did it stand out to you? How did people react to it, and what does it reveal about human behavior?

Prompt Response: one of the craziest news stories I've seen was about a man who had been living a normal life for many years, but he was arrested for killing someone a long time ago. People who saw the story were all really shocked becuase he looked like a normal person seeming to be living a good life. This story stood out to me because it is how you don't know who you can trust, because people aren't always like how they come off as.

Prompt: Miss Emily’s house once represented pride and tradition, but over time it became a symbol of decay and isolation. Describe a place that holds deep memories for you—positive or negative—and explain how it reflects part of who you are or how you’ve changed over time.

Prompt Response: A place that holds deep memories for me is my grandparents house. When I was younger I spent a lot of my time there, and usually went there for family gathering, so it felt welcoming and comfortable. As time passed It started to get quieter, because it got harder for everyone to be able to go at the same time. This reminds me to value my family more, and be aware of changes dduring life.

Prompt: Think about the vocabulary words from Lesson Two. Write about a time you saw or heard one of these words outside of the classroom — maybe in a movie, song, social media post, or book. Describe how it was used and whether the context helped you understand the word better.

Prompt Response: One of the vocabulary words from lesson 2 that I see used a lot In things like TV shows is bland. I usually see it being used in situations relating to food. When I didn't know what the word meant it helped me understand, because I could look at the food and see that for myself. I also have heard it describing people, which also would help to show the meaning of the word.

Prompt: How have the holidays changed as you have grown older? Compare your experiences of the holidays during childhood with how you experience them now, focusing on shifts in perspective, responsibilities, or emotional meaning.

Prompt response: When I was a kid the holidays were really exciting and felt magical. I didn't have to worry about giving gifts, I could just spend time with family, eat food, and mess around. Now that I'm older I have had to take on new responsibilties like buying gifts, i've also noticed I don't get as excited as I used to for Holidays anymore. Despite all of that I still enjoy the feeling of holidays and spending them with my family Summary: We took vocab notes and activities about the vocab Reflection: I learned the meaning of new words.

Mask

Image
Summary: Everyone in class presented their masks. Reflection: I learned more about my classmates.

Prompt: After watching the short film Identity, write a blog post reflecting on how the masks in the film represent the pressure to fit in and the do you want your mask to restruggle to discover who you really are. Choose one moment from the film that stood out to you and explain why. Then, connect the film’s message to Langston Hughes’ poem “I, Too” and to the mask you are creating in class. What part of your identityveal?

Prompt Response: The masks in the film represent struggle to fit in because everybody else in the school have different colored masks then her. One moment in the film that stood out to me was in the lunchroom, because she was sitting alone because her mask was different from everyone else. The message of the poem "I Too" is about not fitting in with other people because of being a different race, this is similar to the short film. Which is about not fitting in with people because there mask doesn't look the same. I want my mask to represent where I'm from.
