Imagine you are learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the very first time. What would you be curious to know about the traditions, foods, music, or celebrations?

Prompt Response: If I were learning about Hispanic heritage for the first time, I would be curious about the celebrations. I would be curious about them because I would want to know if they celebrate different things than me, and if they celebrate more or less things. I would also want to know how occasions that we share in common, like birthdays are celebrated. Lastly I would want to know about the history of how the celebration came to be. Summary: We took notes about thesis and thesis statements. Reflection: I learned about, and how to properly make a thesis statement.

Prompt: Write about a truth you were afraid to accept.

Prompt Response: One truth that I was afraid to accept was my foot being broken. I was afraid to accept this because I was told that I would have to be in crutches for 6 weeks. This meant that I would have to go to football games, homecoming, and a concert in crutches. Another big reason I was afraid to accept it is because I wouldn't be able to play soccer this year, and miss half of a church basketball league Summary: We took notes on how to write a argumentative essay, and about the different parts of it. Reflection: I learned the specifics of what needs to be included in a argumentative essay.

Prompt: As you grow older and face new experiences, what issue or topic do you think you'll have to stand up and debate most often

Prompt Response: As I grow older I think I would debate about politics with my family or friends. I think this will be a recurring topic because it is always changing due to elections, and laws getting passed. This is a topic I think I would debate a lot with my friends and family, because some of my friends and family will have different political views then me. I also think this is a good topic to debate because it allows you to find out information of different political people that I might've not known before. Summary: We took notes on what a claim is and the different types of claims Reflection: I learned how to make claims of fact, reason, and policy.

In “The Interlopers” by Saki, Ulrich and Georg view each other as interlopers, outsiders intruding on their land and their lives. Think about a time when you felt like an interloper or when someone else felt out of place in your world. How did that situation affect relationships, emotions, or outcomes?

Prompt Response: One time someone felt like an intruding on my life was when my sister came home from college. Even though she lived in my house for a long time before, when she comes back from college it feels like she is out of place because she doesn't come home a lot. She also felt out of place because she made a lot of the rooms messy that aren't usually messy. It makes me annoyed when she comes home because she makes messed and takes up more space. Summary: We read a story called The Interlopers, and answered questions about it Reflection: I learned about the story the Interlopers, because I've never read it before.

Of today’s 15 vocabulary words, which three do you think you will use the most in your speaking and writing this semester? Explain why each word feels useful or powerful to you.

Prompt Response:  Out of the 15 vocabulary words the ones I think I will use the most are amoral, ambiguity, and animosity. The first reason for why I think I will use these words the most is because they are the ones I'm most familiar with, and used before. I think I will use amoral a lot because it is a word that can be used in a lot of situations. I think I will use the word ambiguity a lot because I am ambiguous. Lastly I think I would use the word animosity because it is displayed by a lot of characters. Summary: We worked on finishing our posters, and reading of the vocabulary words. Reflection: I learned what all of the different 15 vocabulary words mean.

If you were to compose a poem about one aspect of your life, which topic would it fall into and what would your overall life's message be?

Prompt response:   If I made a poem about my life, it would be about the hard things I’ve gone through. It would show how even when stuff gets really tough, I keep trying and don’t give up. The poem would say that the hard times helped me get stronger. The big message would be that life is not always easy, but you can always keep going . :

After reading Lawrence Ferlinghetti's poem "Constantly Risking Absurdity," which explores the poet's daring craft, write about your most absurd personal experience. Describe a single, specific incident that felt ridiculously bold or foolish. Ensure your response is vivid, concise, and captures the essence of absurdity.

Prompt Response: One incident in my life that was very foolish was when I was in elementary school, I got my uncle to catapult me off of a seesaw. I remember flying through the air about 5 and landing on my head. After this happened I had to get an ambulance to take me too the ER, and I had a fracture in my neck somewhere. I thought this experience was absurd just like the ones said in the poem, because it was dangerous, and had risks. Summary: We read over a poem by  Lawrence Ferlinghetti   and annotated it. Reflection: I learned about the challenges of writing poetry.

It’s Homecoming Week! 🎉 What do you love most about being part of the Lakeside community? How do you show off your school spirit? What is your favorite Homecoming tradition or event?

Prompt Response: My favorite part of being a part of the lakeside community is the people. This is my favorite part because I can meet new people, and a lot of people know each other. I show off my school spirit by dressing up for football games. My favorite homecoming tradition is the after party, because it is fun. Summary: We took an assesment on an Emily Dickinson poem, and worked on our poems. Reflection: I figured out the themes and summary for my poem.

Which learning method do you enjoy the most? Class discussions, worksheet work, or hands-on actvities. Select one and tell why.

Prompt Response: The learning method I enjoy the most is worksheet work. I like this method of learning because you can do worksheets at your own pace and not have to worry about missing instruction or not hearing something, like you would do in a class discussion or a hands on activity. I also like worksheets because you don't have to talk to do them, I think it is easier to work in silence, and not have to talk about your answers. The last reason I like worksheet work more than the others is because they are usually easier than other assignments, and have clear answers and questions. Summary: We worked on making our poem and making the poster for it. Reflection: I learned what needs to be encorperated in a poem.

Which aspect of creating a poem do you enjoy the most? Tell what it is and explain why.

Prompt response: My favorite part of creating a poem is coming up with idea's for what I should write, and writing the peom. This is my favorite part of making a poem because it lets me express what I think about different things through wrinting. I also like writing the poem because I get to come up with different literarry devices to put throught it. While your writing a poem you also have to find words that rhyme to incorporate, overall I like writing the poem because it is a challenge and shows what I think about different things.  Summary: We read over a Emily Dickinson poem in calss and analyzed it.

You are currently working on a soundtrack for selected Emily Dickinson poems. With that in mind, if asked to choose a song to describe your life right now, which song would you select and why?

Prompt Response: If I had to choose a song the describes my life right now I would choose Stonger by Kanye West. I would choose this song because it is about overcoming you struggles. It also talks about how you can become stronger by facing challenges. A line from the song that supports this is "that that don't kill me only makes me stronger." Summary: We took a assessment on poetry, and worked on our quotes assignment. Reflection: I learned about the different meaningss of quotes from Emily DIckinsons poems.

Summary: Today we annotated peoms by Emily Dickinson. Reflection: I learned about the author of the poems view on life and death.
